Midi's Retro tastic handmade coat

Hi everyone,

I know 2 post in one week but I just wanted to show you what I made for midi yesterday. The coat he came with was just way to big and kept slipping around his neck and on his shoulders so I looked at it and thought I can make that. So out came some brown paper and a pencil  and I sketched a pattern.

I got out some wadding, a vintage sheet and some blue fleece fabric and this is what I made..

I made some binding out of blue and spot fabric and this actually took me the most time I have to say I hate sewing binding on especially doing corners its a right tricky business.
I lined the back with blue soft fleece and the middle has wadding to give him extra warmth when its cold. Greyhounds have no fur as such so need the layers.

And well this is Midi in his Retro doggie coat :-)

It fits him really well. I added a strap with Velcro to go around his tummy to hold it in place and also Velcro at the neck he seemed to like it and gave me a lovely cuddle :-)

Next up I will try and make him a waterproof one :-)

Well that really is it from me now for a couple of weeks Cyprus is calling me :-)

Take lots of care and see you all soon.

Midi the retired Greyhound

Morning everyone,

I seem to have missed a week in blogland it has just flown by. Thank you for all your comments and advice on my last post you all helped me greatly and I have given notice with my pitch i am there for another 2 weeks then i will be concentrating on the fairs and another certain someone. We are in the process of adopting a retired greyhound called Midi. We saw him a couple of weeks ago and it was love at first site. He is 4 years old and did well during his racing career now he is looking for his forever home and i am happy to say he has found it with us. Last Friday he came over to meet our cat Timmy as we didn't know how Midi would react to him being a dog used to chasing small furry animals but i am so pleased to say that while he was in his cage there was a sniff from both of them and a little whine from him after  Timmy hissed at him. But the signs were good so yesterday we went and picked  him up to stay with us for a few days. And he has been a star so far. When Timmy and him are in the same area we have to put the muzzle on him for a few weeks until Midi knows that Timmy is part of the family but the signs are good ones. We took him for a lovely walk on the hills yesterday and he is brilliant on the lead he doesn't pull at all we even met the wild horses with their fowls and again he just looked and walked straight by them quietly :-) He seemed to understand that we had to be gentle and calm. So here is Midi's day yesterday...

Midi finding his bed for the first time and just chilling

I am a boy you know and you have given me vintage pink bedding but aahhh what the heck its lovely and soft ;-)

Setting off on our walk with my new mum ;-) I could hear the birds singing it was brilliant.

Just check out that view

What i am being good i am looking at the hills with my dad and hold on what's that i can see in the distance......

Wow, now i am big but those wild horses are much bigger than me :-)

But ahhhh look at this one its only a baby ;-) And i was so good when i walked past

I had a great day but its nice to be home and in my bed :-)

Midi really has been a good boy so far he slept all night to and then when the alarm went off at 6am and mum said morning Midi i got up and trotted over to her bed to kiss my mum and dad good morning before going downstairs very carefully as those stairs are very high and its the first time in my life i have seen them. To have my breakfast and my medication as sadly i suffer with epilepsy but i don't let it bother me :-)

I am off for another walk in a minute when my mum is ready. Right Midi my time to talk now... So that's it from me for another week in fact that's me for a few weeks now as next week i am off on my honeymoon for 2 whole weeks to Cyprus and i cant wait i am so looking forward to seeing the sunshine and being able to swim in the sea. We will be adopting Midi just before we go and then when we come home we will pick him up and he will be here to stay forever and i cant wait for that either.

I will catch up with you all over the next couple of days i know i have missed loads.

Take lots of care and see you all again in a few weeks time.

Two weeks of treasure hunting finds

Hi Everyone,

thank you for all your lovely comments about my front room and my home in last weeks post and to those that have said it should be in a magazine. I have been thinking of that for a while and maybe when the house is finished and the summerhouse has been finished and the inside restored back to what it was instead of a dumping ground for all my furniture that I have for sale I will think about it some more and maybe take the plunge and write in. I have been feeling really low this week and I feel at the moment I am a little lost in my direction my pitch isn't doing very well and I am struggling to sell in there and to be honest its getting to me I have to spend two mornings a week  there and although its a lovely place its not very busy and it makes me anxious every time I have to go not many people come in and I feel its not the right place for me I need to be somewhere that is upbeat and more lively which is why I love doing the fairs so much. I have paid up until the end of this month but I feel nervous about telling the owner plus I don't want to let the other sellers down but I know I have to think of my own needs first. So I think I  have to be a big girl and just say that im sorry but its not for me. And maybe I need to concentrate on selling at the fairs and doing more of them and try hard to start shifting some things I have so much stock its not even funny any day now I am sure the loft is going to say enough is enough and give way. I have also been struggling with my blog since having to give up writing my other one its stupid really but I put some much into it over the past 6 years it was like my baby and I have been thinking that maybe I have become boring with my writing. But I have to remember that when I first started writing it, it was about my vintage finds and my ever changing home I did put images of the fairs and me but I feel at this point in time I cant be as open and as free as I would like to be or I put myself at risk again. Anyway I think  I have moaned on enough here but thank you for listening sometimes you just need to get things of your chest. A problem shared is a problem halved so they say :-)

I thought I would share my recent finds over the past couple of weeks so here goes.

I found this lovely pink flamingo tapestry yesterday in a charity shop for the bargain price of £5 it was framed and mounted in the 1950's in London and I just love it. The colours are so pretty with there pinks, and baby blues and there is so much work and love that has gone into it .My husband isn't to sure mainly because he doesn't like tapestry's but I think it will grow on him :-)

On Sunday I went to Shepton Mallet flee market with my friends and it was huge over 400 vintage sellers it was a bit overwhelming to be honest but towards the end of the day I found what I have been searching for ages for my 50's umbrella stand ;-) She had £30 on it but she didn't want to take it home so I asked what her lowest price was and she said £15 happy days I can tell you. I skipped out of that field.

As many of you know I collect Taunton Vale this is a design and colour I don't have I bought the flour shaker off ebay and then managed to find the jug at a carboot sale for 50p couldn't believe it really it was meant to be :-)

This 60's salt and pepper stand was another great find and at £2.50 It came home with me its going to be great for picnics in the summer.

This biscuit barrel was a find while charity shopping with friends it was made by Babbacombe pottery who Toni Raymond was a designer for this a rare find and was made and designed by him before he took over the business with his wife and started putting his stamp mark on. A find at £5

A celery pot and tea strainer by Toni Raymond these were produced from 1967 these can sell for silly money on ebay. But I managed to get both for under £5 I just love the simple and fun designs.

I found this lovely Midwinter coffee pot for £2 in a charity shop couldn't believe the low price its never been used. I already had the matching sugar bowl so again it was meant to be I feel.

I bought these 2 60's tea towels from my friends house sale never been used I love the bright designs of them. 50p each :-)

And my 50's cat was a find from the flee market on Sunday I did pay a little bit for him but I just fell in love with his cheeky smile.

And last but not least for today some vintage wallpaper couldn't believe it when I stumbled across it by pure chance.

1970's loveliness well I think so ;-) two matching and another design in pale pinks and blues this will either be finding its way onto my front room walls or the hallway I haven't quite decided yet.

Thank you for reading today have a great weekend everyone.

take lots of care

Vintage living room goodies

Hi Everyone,

sorry I haven't been around much I have been out traveling about with friends and enjoying their company and the laptop has taken a back seat again. I thought I had better pull my finger out and write a little post just to keep my hand in really or I know the weeks will creep by. I have been changing more in the house and buying bits and pieces. This week I thought I would show my recent finds for my living room.

We took down the art deco affect wallpaper from the back wall and just painted the whole room cream which although a cold colour it shows of my Tretchoff's and Shabner prints a treat. And also having plain walls means you can brighten up everything by the use of bold textiles, and colours in your furniture etc.

My best buys so far this year for this room have to be my 70's Star burst fully working clock and 70's floor standing Rocket lamp.

I did a very small house clearance a few weeks ago and this was one of the items I took home it cost me next to nothing really as it came with a job lot of other things. I have been looking for one that was in my price range for the past couple of years and I was so excited to get it on the wall its a just a real work of art.
This little beauty was in a secondhand shop where I live and we were driving past the shop I nearly made my other half crash the car as I screamed so loud we stopped drove back and went in and it was priced at £18 I know nuts isn't it I grabbed it and nearly ran out of the shop :-)
In the same house that I got the clock in I bought the G-Plan style Bush Radiogram I have been after one like this for ages and it works great.

I am really happy with the living room now its full of colour and its bright, fun and cosy. I can't seem to stop making crochet blankets and I am currently making one for my sons 13th birthday later this month.

I picked up my little Rocket lamp from a friends house sale last year and I had it stored away but last week it came out and along with the floor standing one they look gorgeous at night time lit up.

I got this gorgeous puff from my friends house sale the other week its in amazing condition.

I got this little 60's wire fruit basket from ebay for £5 again its in amazing condition.
We went into Wales to pick up another ebay buy I love this magazine/table rack the top has a wonderful pattern in cream, black and bronze .
These German Vases came from another private sale I paid £5 for the 2 :-)
My vintage pink sofa is home to my first ever patchwork quilt I made by hand along with a varied pattern of cushions made by me from vintage sheets and curtains :-)

My husband made this little shelf and painted it blue for me it now holds my little 50's Murano glass animals

And that is it I am now off to make some mixed fruit Jam as I have run out and homemade cake tastes so much better with homemade Jam, then I am going to enjoy this lovely sunshine while it lasts a nice quiet day for me its been a manic couple of weeks.

I will catch up with you all tomorrow. Thank you for all your lovely comments on my last post.

Take lots of care dee xx
